Foot Locker??

When I was a kid, we used to buy shoes at Foot Locker all the time, and it was a nice store. The people who worked there were friendly, and you could take anybody into the store without worrying about exposing them to something objectionable. Still think it's like that? THINK AGAIN...

Tonight, James and I went to a Foot Locker store in University City, which is a section of St. Louis just a couple miles from our house. When we walked inside, everything seemed fine...until I started to listen to the rap that they were playing over the speaker system. Within about 30 seconds, I'd heard no fewer than 12 of the worst swear words and quite a bit of explicit sex talk. I couldn't believe it - my parents used to take me into that store when I was 5 years old...but I would NEVER take anyone into that store now...especially not a child! I'll be calling their corporate headquarters in the morning to make a formal complaint. I was so disappointed - I used to like that store and shop there all the time. But not anymore.

Getting the Garden Started

We've decided to go ahead and get some of our seeds started for this spring! About 2 weeks ago, we planted our snapdragons (they need to be started 12 weeks before the last frost), and since then, we've started some of the other seeds that need to get a jump on spring. I'm planning to keep the blog posted with pictures of garden progress this spring and summer, so here's a first look...

the seed starting trays in the living room...

These are snapdragon seeds that just sprouted - notice how they bend toward the sunlight.

This picture is a little blurry, but I still put it in because these are dahlia sprouts that are this tall only ONE week after we planted them!!!

Snow Puppy

Here are a few pictures of Max in the snow. He loves to run as fast as he can and then slide into snow banks until he's white all over and covered with snow.

ENT

James is on an otolaryngology rotation right now at the hospital, and he says it's yuck. The patients come in with these gross, pus-filled wounds, and the doctors have to drain them. One of the patients has only half of a face, and they're trying to build him the rest of his face. Other people have half of their faces hanging off. It sounds pretty gross to me...even when compared with neurosurgery, which James thinks isn't yuck at all.
